Kidder Twp. traffic signal installation to begin soon

Work is expected to begin in the next couple weeks to install a traffic signal at the intersection of Lake Harmony Road and Route 903 in Kidder Township.

Anyone who has visited Lake Harmony during the summer months, ski season, race weekends or just about any Saturday evening or Sunday morning when St. Peter the Fisherman church's parking lot empties out knows that turning off of Lake Harmony Road onto Route 903 can be a lengthy and sometimes frightening experience.Over the past few years, Kidder Township had requested the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation install a traffic signal at the intersection. PennDOT conducted road studies and determined that the signal was not warranted.Township supervisors, manager and residents disagreed with PennDOT's decision, and the township applied for grants to fund the traffic signal.Instead, the supervisors voted to install the light with money from this year's budget."The light poles have been delivered and are being stored in the upper lot," said township Manager Lisa Klem. "We expect the work to begin within the next few weeks."The project is expected to be complete before the new school year begins.
