The Slatington borough council on Monday made a motion to accept borough secretary Karen Gill's letter of resignation date June 5.
Following the resignation, the board voted to advertise for a new office secretary and bookkeeper.While borough Manager Judith Danko searches for a candidate, Joan Cheesbrough will serve as temporary part-time secretary and bookkeeper for a rate of $20 an hour.The board authorized Danko to conduct a $33,353 lease agreement with Community First National Bank for a 2017 Ford Interceptor sedan for the police department.According to Chief David Rachman, the vehicle was already accounted for in the upcoming budget year.Slatington's volunteer fire department will purchase a 2001 firetruck for $125,000.Fire Chief Jason Nicholas said the department will purchase the vehicle with its own funds and any profits made from the sale of its 1991 truck."It's a newer truck, so it's more of an upgrade. It has more room and newer pump. We will purchase it on our own," Nicholas said.The Main Street Merchants Group will host its annual First Friday with this month's theme honoring the Fourth of July with a red white and blue theme from 4-8 p.m. on July 7.Danko asked the board to make a motion allowing her to advertised proposed ordinance No. 686.During July's meeting, the board will consider adopting the international property maintenance code board of appeals ordinance.Council will appoint members to a board in order to hear residents' appeals and make decisions regarding the code official's write-ups and determinations.
