HARRISBURG - The House Local Government Committee reported out Rep. Zach Mako's (R-Lehigh/Northampton) legislation to require municipal authorities to create additional financial protections when collecting money.
"When handling money, financial best practices should be employed to protect all parties," Mako said. "Without proper checks and balances, it can become too easy for mismanagement to occur."House Bill 1034 would make municipal authorities remove any individual names from municipal accounts, create a standardized procedure for the handling of an authority's funds, and require annual audits and fiscal reports to be presented to the authority board.
