L. Towamensing awards bids for road repairs

The Lower Towamensing Township Board of Supervisors opened the bids Tuesday night for road repair work on three of its roads.

The bid submitted by Shiffer Bituminous Services Co. in Kresgeville was $52,400.10 or $1.45 per square yard unit, Chairman Brent Green said. The second bid was from Asphalt Maintenance Soultions LLC in Emmaus. That bid was $47,666.02 or $1.31 per square yard.Green motioned to accept the bid from AMS. Supervisor Jesse Mendez seconded it and they both voted yes. Supervisor Ron Walbert was absent.The roads that will be worked on this summer include Oak Road, Club Road, Boyer Farm Road and Spring Road. The supervisors decided to postpone work on Lesher, Pine and Lower streets.The supervisors also discussed quotes the township received for several pieces of equipment. The list included:• Pressure washer, for $7,780, which included a sand blaster unit, and $275 for a hose reel• Plate Tamper, $1,950. The tamper is 34.5 inches by 19.5 inches and weighs 190 pounds. It is a piece of equipment the township doesn't already own.• Cobra Pro Breaker jackhammer, $4,780• A 1-ton hydrostatic roller, $13,787, which is the discount price. It was originally $15,520• A combo-unit that includes a trimmer and pruner. No price given.• Two 16-inch and two 20-inch chain saws for a total of $2,663.72."We can table (the pressure washer) for next year and add it to the budget," Green said.He suggested the township purchase the plate tamper, jack hammer and hydrostatic roller, and Mendez agreed.Green told the township secretary Christine Wentz to purchase the items through money in the liquids fuels account."All of our funds from liquid fuels are budgetable," he said.
