Dog warden will check for licenses, rabies vaccinations

Dog wardens from the state agriculture department will conduct checks across Carbon County for dog owners this month. As part of an outreach program, the checks will look for current rabies vaccinations and current licenses for dogs.

State law requires that all dogs 3 months or older must be licensed by Jan. 1 of the year. Licenses cost $6.50 for spayed or neutered dogs, $8.50 for other dogs. Older adults and people with disabilities may purchase a license for $4.50 for spayed or neutered dogs and $6.50 for others.Additionally, all dogs and nonferal cats (3 months of age and older) must be vaccinated against rabies. Booster vaccinations must be administered periodically to maintain lifelong immunity.Violators may be cited with a maximum fine of $300 per violation plus court costs.For more information, dog owners should contact the county treasurer's office at 570-325-2251.
