Woman leaves rehab early, pleads to escape

A Lansford woman, who left an inpatient rehabilitation center early, entered a guilty plea to a charge of escape on Friday in Carbon County court. Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas.

Amy S. Burns, 36, admitted leaving the Salvation Army inpatient rehab program in Harrisburg early and failing to report immediately to the Carbon County prison.Burns was furloughed from the county prison on order of Matika to enter the inpatient program. The furlough order also stated that if Burns left the program early or was unsuccessfully discharged from it, she had to immediately return to the county prison. She failed to report back to the prison when she left the program and was charged with escape.Matika placed her on probation for 18 months and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 75 hours of community service when released from prison.Burns remains an inmate in the county prison facing a probation revocation hearing on June 22.
