Eldred moves to lower speed limit on Meixell Valley Road

After a number of residents have complained about speeding on Meixell Valley Road Eldred Township supervisors have decided it is time to revise the speed limit down to 40 mph.

The ordinance has been drafted and was available for review at Wednesday evening's board of supervisors meeting."The revision will make Meixell Valley Road 40 mph in Eldred Township," said Chairwoman Mary Anne Clausen. "That is the same as in Ross Township."A public hearing on the change will be held during the July supervisors meeting to get input into the change. The Eldred Township Community Center will finally be getting air conditioning in the community room and one additional room that is available for rental.Vice Chairwomen JoAnn Bush made a motion to award the contract to Super Heat Inc.The decision was made to go with ductless dual-zone units after several attempts were made to engineer a system for the entire building that proved to be cost prohibitive. The units will cost $8,745 for the community room and $5,745 for the additional room.Special hearingBefore the regular meeting, a special public hearing was held regarding two properties that had requested inclusion in the township Agricultural Security Area. The first application was from the Kunkletown Rod and Gun Club, which sought to have an approximately 35-acre tract added to the ASA.The second application came from F. Scott Smith. Smith currently has a tract of land already within the ASA.Based on recommendations from the Planning Commission and the Agricultural Security Committee, Supervisor Gary Hoffman made a motion to include the Smith tract in the ASA. With this addition, Smith will have approximately 200 acres that are in the ASA.Hoffman also followed the recommendations and made a motion to deny the Kunkletown Rod and Gun Club's request. Both motions passed.Neither party was present to address the board during the public hearing. At 7 p.m. June 15 the planning commission will be meeting at the township building to take comments from residents regarding the adoption of an ordinance related to either the growing and production and/or the dispensing of medical marijuana.Clausen encouraged any residents interested in the matter attend the meeting.
