A Coaldale man poised for trial pleaded guilty at the last minute to driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
Michael J. Kabana, 27, was charged by Tamaqua police officer Joseph F. Krebs on April 19, 2015, with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.It was Kabana's second guilty plea to the charges. He pleaded guilty on Dec. 11, 2015, then withdrew the plea on May 25, 2016.On Monday morning, he was scheduled to face trial before Judge Cyrus P. Dolbin, but decided instead to plead guilty to DUI and disregarding traffic lanes.The careless driving charge was dropped.Dolbin sentenced Kabana to 72 hours to six months in jail. He was also fined $1,000 on the DUI charge, and ordered to perform 10 hours of community service.
