State Park events

Several events have been set for Locust Lake and Tuscarora state parks in Barnesville, Schuylkill County.

Naturalist Robin Tracey of Tuscarora, will lead a hike near the Swatara State Park on Saturday. The trail is 5 miles long and easy. The hike will go along the Lebanon Reservoir and an old railroad bed. Participants will meet off Route 443 in Suedberg on Swopes Valley Road in the park at 10:30 a.m. and carpool to the site where the hike will begin at 11 a.m. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed and get along with other pets and people. Bring a lunch, shine only.A star gazing party will be held a the Locust Lake Amphitheater at 8 p.m. on Saturday. The Hazleton Area Astronomical Society members will begin with a slide program at 8 p.m. followed by a sky viewing through telescopes on the south boat launch lot area. The members will be available to answer any questions about astronomy. This is a great family program and is free and open to the public. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Shine only.Tracey will lead a long loop hike on the Crow, Lake View and Spirit trails at 10:30

a.m.June 13. The hike is 9 miles long and moderate in difficulty. This hike combines the best of the trails in Tuscarora State Park. Participants will meet in the Crow Trail parking lot off Tuscarora Mountain Road. This is a dog friendly hike but all pets must be leashed and get along with pets and people. Shine only and bring a lunch.A monarch/pollinator workshop will be held at the Tuscarora State Park visitor center at 9:30

a.m.June 24. The program will include information on monarch butterflies and other pollinators, and information from master gardeners on what steps you can take with your own garden to attract these species and provide them a beneficial habitat. Indoor session will be followed by a short outdoor walk to view some plants and pollinators. The workshop is free but requires registrationas seating may be limited.
