Prothonotary's report

A total of case 335 were started in April in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of cases is as follows:Civil actions, 32; custody complaints, 21; complaints to modify custody, 15; district justice appeals, 4; divorce complaints, 24; complaints in ejectment, 3; eminent domain/declaration of taking, 1; license appeals, 5; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 18; complaint in partition, 1; name change petition, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 30; quiet title action, 1; tax sales, 2; zoning appeal, 1; judgments, 143; miscellaneous cases, 2; stipulations/waivers of liens, 4; and writs of executions, 27. The office also processed 151 applications for U.S. passports and assisted the public in the processing of 40 passport renewal applications.Behrens' financial report for April shows $35,555.12 was generated as follows: prothonotary's fees, $29,578.55; interest income, $4.57; custody/divorce fees, $1,235; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff, $50; PFA Surcharge, Courts, $56.30; data processing fees, $4,597.20, stenographer fees, $33.50; and remote access fees, $1,200.The prothonotary also remitted $4,473.64 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $38.40 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996.
