Schuylkill crashes

State police at Frackville reported investigating two crashes on Schuylkill County roads over the past weekend.

• A two-vehicle crash occurred at 12:05 p.m. on Friday along Route 895 (Summer Valley Road), in East Brunswick Township. Troopers said Walter T. Zeigler, 77, of Schuylkill Haven, was traveling eastbound in a 1996 Ford Explorer while Connor R. Yourkavitch, 19, of Wyomissing, Berks County, was westbound in a 2003 Jeep Liberty. Troopers said Zeigler attempted a turning movement when it was not clear and impeded the path of Yourkavitch. Yourkavitch attempted to avoid a collision by swerving to the right and applying his brakes, however, a sideswipe crash could not be avoided.No one was injured. Damages were termed significant to both vehicles which had to be towed.Troopers cited Zeigler for the crash.• The second crash was reported at 6:58 a.m. on Saturday along Route 901 (Sunbury Road), in Cass Township. Jerry J. Schiazza, 63, of Coal Township, Northumberland County, was driving a 2000 Ford F150 pickup southbound when he lost control on a left curve in the road. The truck traveled off onto the west berm and struck a utility pole. After impact with the pole, the truck rolled over onto its passenger side and came to rest.Schiazza sustained a minor injury and transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital East-Pottsville, by Minersville ambulance. The truck had to be towed.Schiazza was cited for the crash.• A Lebanon County motorcyclist was injured in two-vehicle collision on Sunday in Schuylkill County. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred about 10:15 a.m. along Sweet Arrow Lake Road, in Washington Township.Troopers said Robert H. Mann, 78, of Schaefferstown, was driving a 2004 Harley-Davidson eastbound while Robin R. Umbenhauer, 58, of Pine Grove, driving a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser, was westbound after just turning from Mountain Road. Mann crossed the center line and struck the Cruiser head-on. Upon impact Mann was thrown from the bike and came to final just east of the crash.Mann, who was wearing a protective helmet, was flown by medical helicopter to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Umbenhauer was taken by ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital East, Pottsville.Troopers cited Mann for the crash.
