Commissioners honor Scout for Eagle status

Carbon County commissionersrecently honored Christopher Widdicombe of Jim Thorpe for his attainment of Eagle Scout status.

Christopher is a member of Boy Scout Troop 555, and has been involved in scouting for 11 years.He's earned 29 badges, including electronics, archery, swimming and family life. He has served as Senior Patrol Leader, Chaplain Aid, and Eagle Scout Service Project Leader.For his Eagle Scout project, Christopher designed and built a Monarch butterfly milkweed garden at the Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary in Jim Thorpe. The project took 122 hours.Monarch caterpillars feed exclusively on the leaves of the milkweed, so the plant is critical for the Monarch's survival.Christopher created the garden to educate and raise awareness of the declining Monarch butterfly population.Christopher's Eagle Scout ceremony was heldTuesday at Christ Lutheran Church, Jim Thorpe.Christopher did not attend the meeting.
