Carbon County court - drug cases

Two people who previously pleaded guilty to drug-related charges were sentenced Thursday in Carbon County court by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Nicole Renne Raposo, 32, of Lansford, was sentenced to a time-served term after previously pleading to one count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.She was arrested on Sept. 9, 2016, at 201 W. Ridge St., when Nesquehoning police served a search warrant at the residence. Cocaine and marijuana were found.She was originally charged with 11 drug-related counts.She told Matika because of her addiction to drugs, she has had her three children taken from her. She said she is seven months clean from drug use.Matika sentenced her to 79 days to one year in jail with credit for 79 days already served and paroled her. She was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service.On the paraphernalia charge she was placed on probation for a year, concurrent with the first count.Adrian Vega-Caba, 25, of West Hazleton, was placed on probation for 24 months on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.Vega-Caba was stopped on Nov. 4, 2016, along I-80 in East Side Borough for traffic violations by state police at Fern Ridge. At the stop he was found to have marijuana in his vehicle. In exchange for the plea, the district attorney’s office dropped six other drug counts.Vega-Caba recently was sentenced on the same charge in Luzerne County to 24 months probation.Matika also ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, supply and DNA sample and render 100 hours of community service.The probation time runs consecutive to the Luzerne County sentence.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
