Woman identified in Lower Towamensing crash

A Palmerton woman died after her vehicle went into a ditch and struck a tree in Lower Towamensing Township Monday evening.

State police at Lehighton said the crash occurred at 5:45 p.m. when a Subaru Impreza driven by Sylvia Lucas, 70, was traveling eastbound on Hahn’s Dairy Road in the area of Steckle Road.The Subaru left the right side of the roadway and went into a ditch about 3-feet deep, then came out and hit a tree.Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:54 p.m. by Carbon County Coroner Robert W. Miller Jr.There were no other passengers in the vehicle.The vehicle sustained heavy front end damage, and came to rest with the front of the bumper against the tree and the rear end of the vehicle facing north.Also assisting at the scene were Palmerton EMS, Lehighton EMS, and Aquashicola Fire Company.The vehicle was towed by Strohl’s Towing.
