Four area athletes medal at PIAA Championships

SHIPPENSBURG - The PIAA Track and Field Championships came to a close Saturday afternoon at Shippensburg University's Seth Grove Stadium, and four Times News area athletes came away with hardware.

Tamaqua's Monika Shimko placed fourth in the Class 2A 800 with a time of 2:16.43. Shimko, a four-time state qualifier, was eighth in the event a year ago.

Lehighton's Aaron Bowman tied a school record in the Class 2A pole vault. The senior cleared 14-0 to finish fifth in his first trip to states.

Marian junior Tina Capparell (5:05.94) ran to a sixth place finish in the Class 2A 1600 for her first state medal.

Capparell wasn't the only athlete to bring a medal back to Hometown.

in his first trip to the state meet, the Marian's Jarrin Geisinger (11.14) finished seventh in the Class 2A 100.
