Carbon County court - DUI

Three people who previously pleaded guilty to driving under the influence charges were sentenced on Monday in Carbon County court to prison terms.

Judge Steven R. Serfass imposed sentences on the following:Jared Day, 29, of Slatington, was sentenced to serve 90 days to 60 months in prison, a fine of $1,500, one-year license suspension and render 100 hours of community service.Day was arrested on Jan. 20, 2015, along Bridge Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He will begin the jail term at 2 p.m. May 28 and serve it on consecutive two-day periods of Sunday to Tuesday.Winfred Yarosh Jr.,39, of Tobyhanna, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.Yarosh was arrested on Nov. 25, 2015, along Maury Road in Penn Forest Township by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He was given credit for nine days spent in jail on the charge and paroled.Vernon Eric Fritz, 39, of Andreas, was sentenced to serve 5 days to six months in jail, a fine of $300, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.Fritz was arrested on Nov. 20, 2015, along Bridge Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.17 BAC.He began the jail term immediately.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole and follow any recommendations of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
