Philly resident gets jail on drug dealing charge

A Philadelphia man was sentenced to a state prison term on Monday in Carbon County court on a drug-dealing charge.

Sylvester Richard Greene Jr., 31, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve 12 to 30 months in a state correctional institution.Greene was arrested following a traffic stop.State police at Fern Ridge said Greene was stopped at 4:32 p.m. Nov. 6, 2013, along Interstate 80 westbound in Kidder Township for speeding.During the course of the stop troopers observed multiple indicators of illegal activity. A consent search of the vehicle was conducted and a bag containing crack cocaine was found. A search of Greene led to the discovery of more than 60 grams of cocaine and a small amount of marijuana. The case took time in reaching court as Greene had other legal matters in other counties to deal with.Matika also ordered Greene to submit a DNA sample, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, pay court costs of about $1,000 and render 100 hours of community service work when paroled. The term runs concurrent with a state prison term imposed in Lycoming County.
