No matter the weather, pools are set to open

Despite an unseasonably cool spring, several area pools are slated to open Saturday.

Buehler Memorial Pool in Tamaqua set to open June 2.Here’s a look at what’s new:Baer Memorial PoolLocated at 1101 Bridge St., Baer Memorial Swimming Pool will open Saturday from noon to 7 p.m.Tom Evans, recreation director, said the pool will have free admission on opening day.Evans said the pool sells memberships for families, single, adult, senior citizens and children.Swimming lessons are included with membership, and the pool also offers private swim lessons, he said.Evans described the pool as a “miniature water park.”“They love it,” Evans said. “The biggest thing is it’s clean and the food prices are reasonable.”He said it features a solar-heated pool. An on-demand hot water system for showers has been added.Evans said the pool has two pavilions that can be rented out for birthday parties and other functions.Last year, Evans said a fish slide was installed, as was a new online stereo system. He said the Lehighton Area Pool Pals painted the two pavilions, and provided funding for lighting. The pool employs 25 part-time workers, Evans said.He said the pool will remain open from noon to 7 p.m. daily. For more information, follow the pool on Facebook.Palmerton Memorial PoolThe Palmerton Memorial Pool, at 1255 N.
