Luzerne driver injured in Carbon

A Luzerne County driver was seriously injured on Wednesday afternoon in a crash along the turnpike in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County.

State police at the Pocono barracks said Alexis Elizabeth Footman, 20, of Forty Fort, was driving southbound at 4:34 p.m. in the left lane when she lost control of her Mitsubishi Mirage. The Mirage crossed over both lanes of travel with the passenger side rubbing against the guide rail. After initial impact the Mirage crossed over both lanes again with the front impacting with the center concrete divider, where it came to rest.Footman was not wearing a seat belt. She was taken by ambulance to the Hickory Run Service Plaza, where a medical helicopter transported her to St. Luke's University Hospital Bethlehem Campus with serious injuries, troopers said.The right lane was closed for about 90 minutes.
