Giant will become Carbon County's first supermarket to sell beer and wine.
The store, located in the Carbon Plaza Mall, will begin beer sales Wednesday. They recently added a Beer Garden and Eatery, complete with tables and chairs to comply with state law.
They received a license to sell beer and wine at the store back in September. Wine sales won't begin for another few weeks.
Giant plans to sell bottled and canned beer, and bottles of wine from the new store. No draft beer or hard liquor will be sold.
Each customer can purchase up to two six packs of beer and four bottles of wine in a single purchase.
The store has a policy at its beer-carrying stores that people drinking in the store must also purchase food.
Regular hours for beer sales will be 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and 9 a.m.-10 p.m. on Sundays.
Back in September, the Mahoning Township Supervisors approved a request by Giant Food Stores, LLC to transfer a restaurant liquor license into the township from Kidder Township.
There are more than 320 grocery stores who sell beer around the state. There is one other business that sells beer in Carbon Plaza -- Pizza Como USA
