Tamaqua high school holds Night of Achievement

Tamaqua Area High School and its guidance department held their annual "Night of Achievement" and presented over $100,000 in scholarships and awards to members of the senior class.

Abigail Brickler received The Karen Mateyak Mathematics Award, in the amount of $1,000, the Russell P. Kropp Ph.D. Memorial Scholarship for $1,500, the Benjamin Herring Memorial Scholarship for $5,000 and the Jerome Betz Memorial Award for $2,500.Alexa Hromyak received the Karen Mateyak Mathematics Tutoring Award in the amount of $1,000 and the Ernest Scheller Memorial Scholarship for $3,000.Andrea Iacoviello received the Drs. Larry and Pamela Assalita Scholarship for $500, the Walter Ligenza Award for $100, the Alice Konecny Memorial Scholarship for $2,000, and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Award in the amount of $150.Allie Gerber received the John Mettler Future Educator's Scholarship in the amount of $500, and the Joanne and Raymond C. Kinder Educational Scholarship, also in the amount of $500.Angelica Battaglia received the Nicholas S. Demyanovich Memorial Award in the amount of $500, and the Theodore Leiser Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $6384.Blake Tate received the Edward Shafer Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $300, and the James D. Collins Award in the amount of $1,900.George Hegedus was awarded the Fenstermacher Prize in the amount of $5,000, and the Humbert Lendin Music Scholarship in the amount of $3,000.Rebecca Kanaskie received the William and Florence Fegley Award in the amount of $3,000, the Zukovich award in the amount of $250 and the Tamaqua Business & Professional Women's Club Young Woman of the Year award in the amount of $250.The Tamaqua Education Association Award was presented to Adam Shumgart and Abigail Brickler. Each received $1,000.The J.E. Morgan Foundation Scholarship was presented to Alexa Hromyak, Andrea Iacoviello and Kyle Ruch in the amount of $5,000 for four years.The Class of 1946 award was presented to Destini Sell and Joshua Danner, each in the amount of $500. Members of the class of 1946 who were on hand to present the award noted this will be the final year the award is presented.Five awards of $1,000 each were presented by Air Products and Chemicals to Joshua Gordon, Stephen Oravec, Kyle Ruch, Miciah Shupp and Matthew Smarr.The Schuylkill County Interscholastic Athletic Association Scholarship was presented to Joshua Gordon and Monika Shimko. Each received $100.The Fisher Memorial Award was presented to Matthew Smarr, Zoe Snyder and Micahela Noftz in the amount of $150, $100 and $75, respectively.Rebecca Kanaskie and Andrea Iacoviello each received a scholarship from TASGA, in the amount of $500.Additionally, the following awards were presented:Rotary Award, to Adam Klatka, in the amount of $500.Dr. Richard Miller Award, to Alex Verta, in the amount of $100.Fraternal Order of Police Award, to Alisa Hollenbach, in the amount of $100.Tamaqua Area Alumni Award, to Cailyn Joseph, for $500.Baileys Building Supplies Top Votech Student Award to Damon Gulick for $100.Edmonds Memorial Scholarship to David Lucas for $200.St. Luke's Miners Memorial Scholarship to Deidra Ressler in the amount of $500.John Klimowitch Memorial Award, to Emma Dillman for $150.John and Nell Forrest Vocal Scholarship to Faith Roberts. This award is presented to a junior student and is an all-expense paid camp experience to be used this summer.Marlin A. Hechler Memorial Award to Gavin Seip for $500.William Klingaman Award to Genevieve Beck in the amount of $500.Fred M. Valent Memorial Award, to Hannah Betz in the amount of $500.Diane Miller Memorial Award to Isabella LIgenza in the amount of $100.Frank Zlock Memorial Scholarship, to Jacob Banditelli in the amount of $500. This is the first year this scholarship is being presented.Student Recognition Committee Award to Jordan Georgis in the amount of $100.Theodore A. Giltner Scholarship to Joshua Gordon in the amount of $3,000.Arnold Delin Award to Kayla Holland in the amount of $500.Arthur S. and Mary Wolfe Scholarship to Kendra Boyle in the amount of $3,000.Kimberly (Mateyak) Griffith Memorial Scholarship to Melissa Boerner in the amount of $1,000.Towle Family Scholarship to Michaela Noftz in the amount of $250.M&T Financial Bank Award to Noah Evans for $100.Class of 1965 Award to Raymond Kinder in the amount of $500.St. Luke's Medical Staff award to Riley McHugh in the amount of $500.Frances K. Miller Memorial Scholarship to Sarah Miller in the amount of $500.Kermit Gregory Award to Shawnee Geiger in the amount of $100.Abe Hassan Memorial Scholarship, to Stephen Oravec in the amount of $5,500.Edward J. Tite Memorial Scholarship to Zechariah Wassell in the amount of $1,000.Thelma Urban Memorial Scholarship to Zoe Snyder in the amount of $1,000.
