Kidder Twp. holds a public meeting on zoning changes

The Kidder Township board of supervisors held a public meeting before the regular supervisors meeting on Thursday evening to get final input into its revised zoning ordinance. This was the last of several public meetings to discuss the changes to Ordinance 179.

The meeting began promptly at 6:30 p.m. as advertised and ran about 15 minutes, during which time the supervisors, zoning officer and consultant Carson Helfrick, of Community Planning and Management LLC took questions from residents and commercial property owners. Most of the questions related to commercial property changes and clarifications. The meeting was closed and the supervisors left the room. The regular supervisors meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. During public comment, Michael Birardi of Carbon Development LLC questioned the board about his property being revised from R3 zoning to R1 zoning.Chairman Thomas Bradley explained to Birardi that the time for discussion of the zoning changes had passed with the closing of the record on the public meeting. Birardi stated that he was in the meeting room at 6:35 p.m. and there was no meeting taking place. When Bradley corrected Birardi, he became angry and tried to address those in the audience, saying that he had not been given an opportunity to get a reason why the change was being made to his property. Birardi said the change would decrease the value of his property.Bradley explained that Birardi could request a modification to the ordinance through the township's zoning office. Birardi continued to discuss the matter despite Bradley's attempt to continue the regular supervisor's meeting. Bradley then asked township police officer Michael Chica to remove Birardi from the meeting. Birardi left without further incident. The supervisors voted to advertise the revised ordinance for adoption at the next regularly scheduled supervisor's meeting, which will take place at 7 p.m. June 15.
