Allentown Police have killed a suspect who led them on a chase after an armed robbery this morning.
Early this morning, a robbery was at the Whitehall pharmacy located at 4117 Main St.
During the course of the robbery, the clerk at the pharmacy was shot.
The suspect fled toward Allentown in a white pickup.
Allentown police spotted the white pickup truck at 10th and Chew streets and attempted to stop it as it matched the description in the Whitehall robbery and shooting.
The truck fled. Allentown police radioed ahead for help and in the course of fleeing police, the white pickup truck rammed two Allentown police cars and was eventually stopped at 19th and Green streets, according to a press release from police.
When Allentown police attempted to secure the suspect, he pointed his gun at Allentown Police. Allentown police fired and hit the suspect.
The suspect, whose names has not been released, died from his wounds this morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital. This case is currently being investigated by Lehigh County Homicide Task Force, the Lehigh County District Attorney's office, Lehigh County Coroner's Office and the Allentown Police.
The clerk is currently in serious condition and awaiting surgery. No officers were injured in the shooting, but one officer suffered minor injuries from his car being rammed by the suspect.
This is an ongoing investigation and all names are being withheld. Police said no further information will be released today.
