Panther Vy. senior to head to FBLA nationals

Jenny Lin, a Panther Valley High School senior, is heading to California for the national FBLA leadership conference.

Lin placed ninth at the state leadership conference in Hershey in April in the business calculations event, qualifying her for the trek to Anaheim to test her skills during the conference June 27 to July 3 after the school was notified that an additional spot had opened up.This will be the first time a Panther Valley High School student will be attending the national conference.During the three-day state event, which boasted 4,500 high school students and advisers from across Pennsylvania, members competed in over 65 competitive events, campaigned for state official and attended general sessions and workshops."Attending the National Leadership Conference is a great honor and an amazing opportunity for Jenny and our Panther Valley FBLA program, which is only in its fourth year," said Susan Solt, FBLA adviser.Lin is a member of the school's National Honor Society, Student Leadership Council, Aevidum, Envirothon team, Student Forum, Student Leadership and also serves as the treasurer for FBLA and Student Government. She also volunteers for many community projects, including the Nesquehoning Fishing Derby, Summit Hill Heritage Center bingo, various elementary school events, Carbon County Senior Games and Toys for Tots; and works at her family's restaurant.She has been accepted to the College of Business and Economics at Lehigh University, where she will major in finance.The cost to attend the conference is $4,000 and the FBLA is currently trying to raise money to send Lin and Solt to the event.To help Lin and the FBLA, checks can be made payable to PV FBLA, and sent at the attention to Susan Solt, FBLA adviser, Panther Valley Jr./Sr. High School, 912 Coal Region Way, Lansford PA 18232.For more information, call Solt at 570-645-2171 or
