Pickup plummets off Route 248

A Summit Hill man had minor injuries after his pickup traveled off a cliff and landed on railroad tracks along Route 248 near Palmerton Thursday afternoon.

State police at Lehighton said the crash occurred at 3:46 p.m. A 2006 Toyota Tacoma driven by John Frace, 65, was traveling west on Route 248.As the pickup approached the bridge about a tenth of a mile east of the Palmerton exit, it traveled off the north side of the roadway and struck a guide rail located east of the bridge.The pickup continued traveling on the north shoulder of Route 248, and its right side struck a tree, and traveled off the cliff, eventually landing on the railroad tracks located below the bridge. It came to rest about 60 feet from initial impact facing west.Frace was transported to St. Luke's University Hospital - Bethlehem campus for further medical evaluation.The pickup was towed from the scene by Strohl's Towing.
