Carbon County court - DUI

Five defendants who previously pleaded to driving under the influence and related charges were sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika on Monday in Carbon County court.

Eric Michael Kester, 31, of Parryville, was sentenced to a year in jail on two DUI charges.He previously pleaded to a DUI charge for an incident on Dec. 7, 2016, along Blakeslee Boulevard Drive East in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. On Monday he admitted to another DUI count for an incident on Aug. 29, 2014, filed by state police at Lehighton after a stop along Third Street in Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Kester is currently an inmate in the county prison for two probation violations petitions filed by the adult probation office.Matika sentenced him to serve one to five years in jail on each count, running concurrently. He was also ordered to pay total fines of $3,000, license suspensions of 36 months and render 100 hours of community service when released from custody.On a driving under suspension - DUI related count he was sentenced to serve 45 to 90 days in jail and a fine of $1,000. He must serve the full 90 days and the term runs concurrent with the other charges.He was granted work release privileges.Troy Terry Kidd Jr., 27, of Palmerton was sentenced to serve 30 to 60 days in prison on a charge of driving under suspension - DUI related. He must serve the full 60 days.Kidd was arrested on Jan. 10, 2016, at Delaware Avenue and Third Street by Palmerton police.He was also ordered to pay a fine of $500. On two motor vehicle code violations he was fined a total of $50 and costs.He will begin the jail term on May 19 at 7 a.m. and serve it on consecutive three-day weekends.Kelly Lynn Brinker, 37, of Allentown, was sentenced to serve six months in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program with the first 30 days on electronic monitoring. The IPP will be supervised by Lehigh County.Brinker was arrested on Aug. 10, 2015, along Patterson Street by Lansford police. A test showed 0.22 BAC.She was also ordered to pay a fine of $300, one-year license suspension and zero tolerance imposed on drug or alcohol use.Christopher James Rhyder, 24, of Albrightsville, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail.Rhyder was arrested on May 24, 2015, along Route 209 by Nesquehoning police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. He was previously placed in the Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked from it for violating conditions.He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year and render 25 hours of community service.He will begin the jail term at 6 p.m. June 2.Kaliah Alejandria Santiago-Colon, 21, of Bethlehem, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail. On a possession of drug paraphernalia charge she was placed on probation for a year, concurrent with the DUI count.She was arrested on May 12, 2015, along Route 443 in Mahoning Township by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. She was previously placed in the ARD program but was revoked from it for violating conditions.She was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.She will begin the jail term at 10 p.m. on May 18.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole/probation and follow all recommendations of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
