'Sounding Out Against Heroin' concert is Saturday

A special concert, "Sounding Out Against Heroin," will be held at 7 p.m. Saturdayat the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St., Tamaqua.

In addition to music, the event will feature guest speakers and a basket raffle with prizes that include guitars and gift cards for the Tamaqua Station Restaurant and Fegley's Oil.The main event will be a concert by rock singer/songwriter/guitarist Scott Marshall and The Marshall's Highway Band. Other entertainers will include Tony and Joel from the Cherrybombs, guitarist Lee Delray of the Lee Delray Band, Jordan Kenzie and Chelsea Lynn Meyer.Marshall is based in Allentown. As for his appearance at the Tamaqua event, he says, "This war knows no boundaries and takes no prisoners. It only recruits users and discards casualties in its assault."We, the musicians, who know and share the pains and struggles associated with this war, are using our gifts, our talents and opportunities as performing artists to help and encourage everyone to Sound Out and FIGHT! Sounding Out Against Heroin."His music reflects the many roads traveled, good and bad, and his path to redemption.Marshall said, "When the kind folks of Tamaqua reached out to me last year about hosting our band in their venue, I was happy because we have friends and fans throughout the area. We are well aware of the struggles they face with the heroin epidemic and it was placed on my heart to once again use our show as an opportunity to raise awareness and funds to help the community and local organizations that try to do the same. "Lee Delray is a blues guitarist raised in New York City. His early influences were Pete Seegar and Elvis Presley. In 2014 and 2016, he won the Lehigh Valley International Blues Competition and went on to compete in the national events. Although he has a sincere love and respect for traditional blues, he has been known to push the limits.Tony Dileo and Joel Berardi are members of The Cherrybombs, one of the Lehigh Valley's premiere bands. They are regularsat the Main Gate Night Club in Allentown playing classic hard rock.Jordyn Kenzie is a 16-year-old songwriter and singer from the Lehigh Valley. She was recently named female artist of the year at the Lehigh Valley Music Awards. Performing since the age of 12, she can be found at venues such as Godfrey Daniels, Musikfest Cafe and Levitt Pavilion.Chelsea Lynn Meyer is a pop rock singer and songwriter hailing from Macungie. Her work has been nominated in 10 different categories for the Lehigh Valley Music Awards 17.Guest speakers include state Sen. Dave Argall, Tamaqua Mayor Chris Morrison and Tamaqua Police Chief Rick Weaver. Support groups include: Donna Jacobsen, Caron Treatment Centers, raising funds for

H.O.P.E. (Heroin Opioid Prevention Education Center), a division of Caron; and Elizabeth Lehr, representing Celebrate Recovery.Art Center Director Leona Rega says, "Our focus for the evening is directly on awareness of the need for a community to accept that we have a need for treatment centers, and share information regarding support groups from the community for those seeking recovery or who are in recovery from drug addiction.
