Tamaqua police issue warrant for man in assault

Tamaqua Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of Shane Evans, 30, of Tamaqua, after he physically assaulted a woman on Sunday, May 14, sending her to the hospital.

The victim and her sister went to the Tamaqua Police Station at 5:45 p.m. to report the assault. The women said Evans came to their house and began arguing because the victim’s sister was in the house. At one point, Evans ripped an LGV20 phone from the victim’s hand and smashed it into a radiator. He then flipped over the couch and began destroying items in the house.When the victim tried to right the couch, he grabbed her by the back of her neck, slamming her head against hard surfaces and hitting her in the back, over and over. She was able to break free and fled outside, yelling for help. Before officers could arrive, Evans took one last shot, shoved her into a tree and fled.She was transported to St. Luke’s Miners Hospital in Coaldale for treatment of head, back, arm and leg injuries.Evans faces charges of simple assault, criminal mischief and harassment.A second warrant is also being filed as Evans returned to the home the next day. The tenants heard noises upstairs at 8:30 p.m. and found Evans. He pushed his way past two adults, who were each holding a toddler, then ran out the door. He left an uncapped syringe on the bathroom floor.In that case, he will be charged with defiant trespass, possession of drug paraphernalia and harassment.Anyone who sees Evans, or knows of his whereabouts, is asked to contact Tamaqua Police at 570-668-5000.
