Nathan J. Gerace, a 2016 Tamaqua Area High School graduate, will be on the ballot this fall as the Republican candidate for Tamaqua mayor. His Democratic opponent will be a write-in candidate.
Incumbent Democratic Mayor Christian Morrison decided not to seek another four-year term. No Democrat filed a nominating petition so the new mayor will likely be a Republican, unless a write-in campaign is conducted by someone to get the Democratic nod.
Three people have filed for the Republican nomination for mayor, and all are newcomers to the political scene in the borough.
Seeking the position were Gerace, William F. Price Sr. and Christine Rottet Hartung.
