Two Democrats and two Republicans are vying to be the next register of wills/clerk of orphan's court in Carbon County.

One Democrat and one Republican will appear on the ballot in the general election this fall.

Incumbent Judy Moon is retiring after 22 years in office.

The register of wills is responsible for proving the validity of wills, and appointing an administrator in cases where someone dies without a will. They are responsible for collecting the state inheritance tax.

As the clerk of orphan's court, they are also responsible for marriage licenses and adoptions, as well as the guardianship of children and incapacitated people.

The four candidates all have some experience either in county government or as an elected official.
