Bad week for Coaldale man

Last week wasn't a good one for Michael Fitzsimmons, 38, ofWest Phillips Street, Coaldale.

On May 7, Summit Hill police found a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, registered to Fitzsimmons, down an embankment on Route 902, just south of Mountain Top Road. There was no one found in the Jeep or in the area.Officers went to West Phillips Street and spoke with Fitzsimmons, who said the Jeep must have been stolen and he had no knowledge of the incident.After a joint investigation by Coaldale and Summit Hill police, it was determined that Fitzsimmons was the person involved in the crash. When confronted, he admitted he had lied.Coaldale police charged him with making a false report to law enforcement. Charges in connection with the accident will be filed by Summit Hill police.Then, on Wednesday, May 10, an oil burner malfunction at the apartment building where Fitzsimmons was staying brought a fire and police response. As officials swept the building placing fans to clear the smoke, a pipe and small amount of marijuana were found sitting on top of a desk in Fitzsimmons' apartment.He was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
