There will be very few competitive election races that will face voters in Northern Carbon County when the county holds its 2017 municipal primary election on Tuesday.

In fact, there is only one contested municipal race, that being for the Republican nomination for a six-year term on the Lehigh Township board of supervisors.There are, however, school board races to be decided both in Weatherly and Hazleton.Here is what voters in each of the municipalities will see on their respective municipal ballots:Lehigh TownshipThere is one seat up for grabs on the board of supervisors in Lehigh Township, and two Republican candidates are seeking to win their party's nominations. They are Lenny Weston Jr. and Jill Redash-Caposella. There are no Democratic candidates for the office.Lehigh Township voters will also vote on the four-year term as tax collector, where Republican Teresa Barna, the township's longtime tax collector, is running unopposed. She has no opposition from the Democratic Party.There are two auditors' positions to be filled by the electorate, although no one is running on either ticket for either of the positions, which include a six-year term and a four-year term.Weatherly AreaVoters in Lausanne, Lehigh and Packer townships, Kidder Township's North District and Weatherly and East Side boroughs will participate in the balloting for seats on the Weatherly Area School District board of directors, where there are contests for Democratic and Republican nominations for four four-year terms and one two-year term.Seeking the four nominations on both tickets for the four-year terms are David Panckeri, Chad M. Obert, Shay A. Wagner, Brian J. O'Donnell, Girard A. Fewins Sr. and Melissa C. McGee.For the two-year term, Obert, McGee, Panckeri, O'Donnell and Wagner are on both the Democratic and Republicans. Fewins is not seeking the two-year term.Hazleton AreaVoters in Banks Township and Beaver Meadows Borough will participate in the balloting for school board seats in the Hazleton Area School District, where seven people are seeking four nominations on both ballots.All cross-filed on the Democratic and Republican ballots. They are Ed Shemansky, Mark Scarsella, Robert W. Childs, Linda DeCosmo, Bob Mehalick, James Chapman and Alexander C. Van Hoekelen.Banks TownshipThere are no contested races in Banks Township, where the voters will be asked to vote on four positions, where there are only unopposed Democratic candidates.For supervisor, Charles J. Schalles is running unchallenged for the six-year term. Meanwhile, the heir apparent to longtime tax collector Irene Makowiec, who is retiring after decades in office, is Marian C. Lockwood, who is unopposed both within her Democratic Party and on the GOP side as well.There are two uncontested candidates for the six-year and the two-year terms as auditors. They are Joseph R. Bodnar Sr. and Mary Beth Pelley, respectively.Beaver MeadowsOnly three names appear on the Beaver Meadows municipal ballot, including Democrats Jeffrey S. Bobish, who is running unopposed for re-election to a four-year term as mayor, and Robert J. Cryder III, who is seeking one of three nominations for four-year terms on the borough council. He is the only one seeking a council position on the ballot.The third candidate is Republican Mary Ellen Hines, who is running unopposed for the four-year term as tax collector.East Side BoroughEast Side Borough is one of two municipalities out of 23 in Carbon County that do not have any candidates. The other is Weissport.East Side voters are supposed to elect a mayor to a four-year term, fill three four-year terms and a two-year term on the council, and also seat a tax collector for a four-year term, but the Democratic and Republican ballots are both blank.Lausanne TownshipThere are only two candidates on the Lausanne Township ballot. Both are unchallenged.They include Agnes K. Klynowski, a Democrat seeking the six-year term on the board of supervisors, and fellow party member Carol Tulay, who is running for the four-year term as tax collector.There are two auditor positions also to be filled by the electorate, although no one is running for them. They are for six-year and two-year terms.Packer TownshipRepublican Adam Nyer is the sole candidate on the Packer Township ballot. He is seeking the six-year term on the board of supervisors.No one is running on either ticket for two other positions in the township that are up for grabs, including the four-year term as tax collector and the six-year term as auditor.Weatherly BoroughWeatherly Borough voters are expected to elect four people to four-year terms on the borough council and a tax collector for a four-year term.For council, however, there are only two candidates, including Democrat Theresa D'Andrea and Republican Jeffrey Miller.The lone candidate on either ballot for the tax collector's position is Deborah A. Kohler.
