Nesquehoning man killed in Route 54 crash

A Nesquehoning man was killed Saturday in a head-on crash along Route 54 in Rush Township.

According to police, Michael Snisky, 29, was eastbound in his 2002 Buick LeSabre when it went in the opposing lane and struck a 2002 GMC Envoy driven by Jennie Plitt, 50, of Nesquehoning.Snisky's vehicle careened back into the eastbound lane and caught fire, while Plitt's vehicle stopped over a dirt embankment.Fire companies were able to put out the vehicle fire, but Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Edward Smith pronounced Snisky dead at the scene at 3:41 p.m.Route 54 was shut down in both directions for several hours while a state police crash reconstruction unit processed the scene.Plitt was extracted from the wreckage by members of the responding fire companies and transported to St. Luke's Bethlehem Trauma Center by ground ambulance for treatment.A passenger in her vehicle, Jennifer Plitt, 31, was transported by ground ambulance to Lehigh Valley Medical Center, Cedar Crest, with moderate injuries.The investigation is ongoing.Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call 570-874-5300.
