Charges have been filed against a Palmerton man accused of assaulting a minor.

Joseph Kulp Jr. 69, faces charges of indecent assault and corruption of minors, charges in connection with an incident which allegedly occurred March 24 at a home in the borough.Police were notified around 6:30 p.m. that a woman reported walking in to her 12-year-old daughter's room and found the girl and Kulp both partially clothed.The mother told police she saw Kulp on top of her daughter.Kulp was interviewed that night and said that he was unable to remember anything aboutwhat happened.Three days later, Kulp told police he made "a terrible mistake," and had contact with the girl on multiple occasions.Police interviewed the girl, who told them that Kulp tried to sexually assault her, but was unable to do so, and ran away when her mother opened the door.She said this has happened in the past several times at two locations in the borough.The girl said that Kulp attempted to assault her on a handful of other occasions, but was unsuccessful. In one case, she said, she performed a sex act on Kulp.On April 21, police said, Kulp provided a written statement admitting that the contact occurred March 24.He repeatedly made the statement, "I made a mistake," and, "This was a terrible mistake."Kulp has been charged with corruption of minors, a felony, as well as misdemeanor counts of indecent assault and indecent exposure. He remains free on $150,000 unsecured bail.He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. Wednesday before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.
