The Carbon County Senior Games has named this year’s champion.

Going into the final day of competition, returning champs South Carbon County, consisting of Lehighton and Palmerton seniors, led the games, but North Carbon County, made up of Panther Valley, Jim Thorpe and Weatherly seniors, wasn’t going down without a fight.The seniors showed off their bingo, pinochle, rummy and dance skills Wednesday at the Lehighton Recreation Center, but when the music stopped and all was said and done, it was the South Carbon County seniors who came out on top in this year’s Carbon County Senior Games.The final score was South Carbon County, 770; North Carbon County, 592.The results for Wednesday’s events are:Bingo: Susan Ditterline of Palmerton, gold; Frank Barrila of Jim Thorpe, silver; and Frances Hager of Panther Valley, bronze.Pinochle: Leonard Goldberg of Lehighton, gold; Helen Smith of Lehighton, silver; and Linda Bottcher of Lehighton, bronze.Rummy: Lynette Rothrock of Palmerton, gold; Ardella Eidem of Lehighton, silver; and Mike Beschock of Panther Valley, bronze.Polka: Joe and Barbara Mustacchio of Lehighton, gold; Henry Long and Fran Haas of Lehighton, silver; and Linda Bottcher and Linda Daubenspeck of Lehighton, bronze.Slow dance: Mike Freund and Charlotte Koenig of Palmerton, gold; John and Sherry Dewald of Jim Thorpe, silver; and Harry Miller of Panther Valley and Cheryl Herman of Jim Thorpe, bronze.Rock ’n’ roll: Harry Miller of Panther Valley and Cheryl Herman of Jim Thorpe, gold; Mike Freund and Charlotte Koenig of Palmerton, silver; and Sofia Mathews of Panther Valley and LaRae Hlavaty of Lehighton, bronze.
