Seven first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program last week by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program, their record his wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete the program or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed for a year, under otherwise noted.Amanda Paige Hess, 21, of Coatesville, Chester County, was placed for six months on a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana. She was arrested on Dec. 31, 2016, by state police at Lehighton in the area of 7420 Interchange Road in Towamensing Township.She was assessed $450 for the cost of the program and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment.Christopher Dominic Howarth, 22, of Weissport, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on June 13, 2016, at Hazard Square in Jim Thorpe by state police at Lehighton. He refused a test.He was assessed $600 and his license was suspended for 60 days.Christopher William Kerns, 40, of Philadelphia, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Dec. 17, 2016, along Mountain Road in Penn Forest Township by state police at Fern Ridge. A test revealed a 0.25 BAC.He was assessed $550 and his license was suspended for 60 days.Jeffrey William Kuklentz, 53, of Lehighton, was placed on a charge of driving under the influence. He was arrested on April 6, 2016, along Bridge Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.12 BAC.He was assessed $500.Timothy Allen Reph, 19, of Kresgeville, was placed for six months on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on Jan. 7 at Beltzville State Park in Towamensing Township by park rangers.He was assessed $450 and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow all recommendations for treatment.Nicholas Brian Salerno, 30, of Lehighton, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Aug. 17, 2016, along Main Street in Parryville by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 and his license was suspended for 60 days.Erica Jean Schreiber, 25, of West Chester, Chester County, was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on Nov. 23, 2016, along Maury Road in Penn Forest Township by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.She was assessed $600, her license was suspended for 60 days and zero tolerance was imposed on drug and alcohol use.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program, and those charged with DUI must follow all recommendations of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
