Carbon County court - drug cases

A Weissport man was sentenced to a Carbon County prison term on Thursday afternoon after pleading to a charge of possession of heroin.

He was one of four defendants in pending drug-related cases to enter a plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.Vehicle stopSteven Michael Fisher, 27, was sentenced to serve nine to 18 months in prison followed by one year of probation.Fisher was arrested on Feb. 5 by Lehighton police following a traffic stop on Route 209 near the Weissport bridge. He was a passenger in the vehicle. Found under the passenger seat was various drug items and heroin. It was noted Fisher has a history criminal activity related to illegal drugs.Fisher said he spent six months as an inpatient at the Salvation Army and was clean for about eight months, then relapsed.He is currently an inmate in the Lehigh County prison, where he is facing a probation violation proceeding. He told the court he faces up to nine months for the Lehigh violation which would be a state term coupled with the new Carbon sentence.Nanovic also ordered Fisher to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and zero tolerance on drug and alcohol use.Other pleasAnthony M. Pellegrino, 38, of Kresgeville, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on Dec. 27, 2016, along Little Gap Road in Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton following a vehicle stop. He was a passenger in the vehicle. Police learned there was an active warrant for his arrest and while taking him into custody found paraphernalia in the vehicle which he admitted was his.Nanovic placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use.Katelynn Marie Solt, 23, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.She was arrested on April 28, 2016, by Palmerton police along Delaware Avenue. She was a passenger in a vehicle that police had stopped. She was found with the paraphernalia including methamphetamine.Nanovic placed her on probation for a year and ordered she continue her drug counseling and imposed zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use. She told the court she spent time in a inpatient rehab program.Yasmin Dionne Johnson, 22, of Philadelphia, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana.She was arrested on June 15, 2015, along the turnpike in Franklin Township by state police at the Pocono barracks. She was originally stopped for speeding. She spent 14 days in jail on the charge.Nanovic sentenced her to serve seven to 14 days in jail with credit for time-served and paroled her.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee.
