Carbon man admits sexually assaulting woman, two young girls
A Carbon County man admitted in the county court on Thursday morning to sexually assaulting a young woman and two young girls in three separate incidents.
Lucio Alexander Alvarado Torres, 34, of Palmerton, entered guilty pleas in three pending cases before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to one count each of sexual assault, a felony two; and two counts of indecent assault, one a misdemeanor one and the second a misdemeanor two.In the sexual assault case he was charged for an incident on July 9, 2016, at his residence at 430 Delaware Ave. A friend of his live-in girlfriend was visiting the home and decided to stay overnight. While asleep, Torres entered the room and attempted to assault her but she pushed him away. He did this a total of four times. The last time he dragged her from where she sleeping and eventually sexually assaulted her. In that case the district attorney's office dropped two counts of rape, three counts of aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault and one count each of simple assault and harassment.The first indecent assault count occurred on March 12, 2016, at his residence with the victim being a 13-year-old girl. The circumstances were similar to the July incident in which the victim was asleep when Torres entered the room she was in and made inappropriate contact with her. In the plea agreement the DA dropped counts of corruption of a minor, indecent assault, criminal attempt - indecent assault of a unconscious person and criminal attempt - without consent.The third incident occurred on Sept. 19, 2016, at his residence and involved an 8-year-old girl as the victim. Again the circumstances were similar as the other two, the victim was staying over at the residence when the assault occurred. In that case the DA dropped charges of corruption of a minor, indecent assault without consent, indecent assault person under 16, two counts of criminal attempt - indecent assault person unconscious and without consent and simple assault.At the start of the proceeding Nanovic was told that the immigration department has filed a detainer against Torres incident to him being deported. The deportation proceedings will be put on hold until Torres serves his prison term.The plea bargain calls for a minimum state prison term of four years.The father of one of the victims testified how the incident affected her life. He said she attempted suicide by cutting herself, had to go to a facility for treatment, and continues counseling. He said it not only changed her life and robbed her of her innocence and ruined the trust she had and her family's trust in others.Nanovic deferred sentencing because the charges fall under the provisions of Megan's Law. Torres will have to be evaluated by the state sexual offenders assessment board, which will determine if he is a sexual violent predator. If it is determined he is, he will have to register for life as a sexual offender, if not, the registration period will be either 15 or 25 years.Nanovic also ordered the adult probation office prepare a presentence investigation report and that Torres obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
