Cannon is seeking re-election to Lansford Borough Council

Rose Mary Cannon is seeking re-election to Lansford Borough Council.

Cannon has worked in the insurance and hospitality fields, as clerk to the Carbon County Jury Commissioners, as a law firm secretary; and as a legislative assistant to Reps. Thomas J. McCall and Keith R. McCall, aiding senior citizens and others with state programs and problems.Cannon retired from the Times News, Tamaqua, after working for 19 years as a bookkeeper and customer service representative.Her various employment experiences prepared her to be an educated member of council, where she has served as president, vice president and chairs of various committees, including municipal administration.Cannon spearheaded early efforts to obtain office computers and implement yearly audits, which had not been done before. Her revised grant narrative and persistence were instrumental in the construction of the new American Fire Co. building. Working with the Carbon County Commissioners and planning office, a handicapped ramp was constructed for the borough office building.She also assisted with the Elks demolition project. She collaborates with the Friends of Recreationwho work to secure funding for pool renovations.Currently, Cannon and Jared Soto are working with the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce to formulate a plan to entice new business to Lansford and to help established stores. A longtime member of Lansford Alive, she participated in the streetscape project.Cannon initiated the successful town farmers market. She looks forward to continue working with council and residents on pressing community issues.During the Gulf War, Cannon and Mary Ellen McCall started Operation Cheer. Packages of personal items and goodies were sent to our service men and women.She served as secretary to the former St. Ann's Council of Catholic Women; as a member of St. Katharine Drexel parish, she facilitated the church parking lot project.Cannon is a four-year honors student and class secretary, co-editor of the Marian and salutatorian of her Marian High School graduation class.Rose Mary is married to retired navy veteran Thomas A. Dahl. They are the parents of three sons, one daughter, eight grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
