Rebecca Worthy is announcing her candidacy in the primary election for Lehighton school board director.

Worthy has lived in Franklin Township for over 25 years.She is the daughter of two veterans. Her mother Kim, serving in the United Stated Coast Guard and her father William, serving in the United States Air Force. Worthy is a graduate of Franklin Elementary, Lehighton Middle school and a 2007 graduate of Lehighton Area High School.She works for Lehigh Valley Health Network in Emergency Medicine. Rebecca has a 3-year-old daughter Mallory, who will start her education in the Lehighton Area School District in 2019. She is a U5 soccer coach for the Lehighton Area Soccer Club.Rebecca is a member of the Carbon County Chamber Young Professionals Council. She also is a volunteer for Turn to Us, a non-profit organization in Jim Thorpe that helps people with major or chronic illness.As a school board director, Worthy said she will focus on improving education and ensuring a safe environment for students. She will also focus on school spending and accountability between taxpayers in Lehighton and the school board members.
