May 6, 1950 - Tamaqua's Bill Wetterau clears 10-0 in the pole vault to win the event at the 21st annual Coaldale Invitational. Two other area athletes, Lansford's Hilmer Olson and Palmerton's Thaler, are among the five who clear 5-7 3/4 to finish tied for first in the high jump. Joe Radocha of Lansford takes second in the shot put with a distance of 45-11 1/2, while Palmerton's Doug Shiner (440) and "Soup" Campbell (broad jump) also capture seconds. Third places go to Coaldale's Andy Kerr (shot put) and Joe Konecny (discus), Palmerton's Shiner (220), and Tamaqua's Steve Comisac (440).
