Nathan J. Gerace is running as a Republican candidate for the mayor of Tamaqua.

His campaign to date has been a positive one, based upon listening to residents from every ward because he states that each of us have a story to tell.Gerace said, "I decided to run for mayor because of my love for Tamaqua. In addition, I realize that the role is about service to the people and understanding their needs and listening to their concerns."Over the last several weeks, Gerace arranged for listening events to be held at the Tamaqua High Rise, Majestic House and the Tamaqua Community Arts Center. Also, he visited the senior citizens at the Salvation Army and the YMCA.He attended borough meetings, as well as regional events on strategies to deal with blighted properties and the national opioid epidemic. Gerace credits these events for his insights into the community's concerns.He said he wants to be an ambassador between the existing organizations serving the borough. In addition he wants to help ensure that young people who love Tamaqua have the opportunity to return home after trade school or college to a safe and thriving town.Gerace also noted the importance of confronting the opioid problem headon to prevent further destruction of lives.Gerace is a lifelong resident of Tamaqua and the son of Philip and Lucy (Siluk) Gerace. He has one brother, Julian, and two sisters, Francesca and Antonetta.Since childhood he has been employed over the years as a Times News carrier, cashier, dishwasher, cook and bartender, all within the Tamaqua area.While this is his first political campaign, Gerace said, "I believe that I bring a fresh perspective that will help Tamaqua thrive. I have the time, energy and passion to do my part to make our great town even better."​
