Myron "Zeke" Blahy of Mahoning Township is running for the township supervisor's seat.

Blahy said he is concerned about maintenance of the township roads and retaining the police department."We need to maintain our own police department rather than rely on coverage from a 'pooled' police department in neighboring Lehighton," Blahy said."I think it's great that we have backup from local police departments, but there is nothing more reassuring to residents than to know that we have our own department that can respond at a moment's notice."Blahy said the best evaluation of township roads comes from the road crew that maintains them.He encourages residents to attend meetings and state concerns or give an opinion of an issue in their sector of the municipality."In this case, the five supervisors on the board should divide the township into five sectors and each supervisor should be assigned to represent that part of the township," Blahy said.Residents should also have a better means of communicating with their supervisors even if it needs to be a personal call.Blahy served seven years in the United States Marine Corps. He then worked as an engineering technician at Yarway Corporation, in Blue Bell, for 25 years. After the company closed he went to work for Cheltenham Township as a code enforcement officer. Now he and his wife, Olga, have made Mahoning Township their home.Blahy has made many local friends over the years and likes to dedicate his time to the community. He often finds himself cleaning up the township as he drives by, picking up trash, mattresses, tires, etc. and disposing of them at proper facilities at his cost many a times, so that folks can enjoy beautiful scenic views.He feels that with his experience working for a township, would be an asset to run for the Republican seat for Mahoning Township Supervisors position.
