Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday agreed to seek bids on seven demolition projects.

The projects are at 216 E. Ridge St., Coaldale; 51 S. Lehigh Ave. and 60-62 N. Lehigh Ave., Frackville; 1 W. Ogden St., 136-138 W. Ogden St., and 25 S. John St., Girardville, and at 142 E. Grand Ave., Tower City.The bids are due in the Controllers' office by June 5, with a bid opening date of June 7.The tentative award date is June 14.The projects will be paid for through a $1.4 million grant through the state Department of Community and Economic Development the county received in January.In other matters, commissioners approved a contract between the coroner's office and Forensic Pathology Associates for autopsy services and pathological services at a fee of $1,880 per service.The contract runs from May 1 through Dec. 31.Commissioners also addressed recent complaints about the state game commission's prescribed burn in light of the county's ban on outdoor burning, which is in effect through May 21.The game commission burned 114 acres along route 309 on April 28.Commissioner Gary J. Hess said this was the second time the game commission has conducted a prescribed burn during a county burn ban.The burn bans are aimed at preventing accidental wildfires, common in the spring, when there is scant vegetation.Commissioners Chairman George F. Halcovage Jr. wants the game commission to respect the ban, and to better communicate with county agencies and the public.In other matters, commissioners also approved a three-year contract with the Penn State Cooperative Extension office.Under the contract, the county will provide a fixed funding allocation of $42,630 per year for 2017 (prorated), 2018, and 2019 and Penn State Extension will provide financial accounting and office administrative support services at the Schuylkill County extension office.In light of the upcoming May 16 primary election, commissioners agreed to hire four resolution board members for election night.They are Jeanne Porter, Brian Canfield, George Moyer and Edward Barket Jr. as a substitute for Ed Barket.Each will be paid $100.Commissioners also approved hiring six people for the computing board at $70 per day, beginning at 9 a.m. May 19 to begin the computation and canvassing of the returns from the election.They are Joann Myers, Rose Kern, Joann Dower, Sharon Chiao, Susan Kester and Thomas O'Neill.The next commissioners' meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesdayat North Schuylkill High School, 15 Academy Lane, Ashland.
