Palmerton graduate Brinn Doherty recently broke a long-standing Millersville University record in the long jump.
Doherty, a freshman, posted a distance of 18-10 3/4 at the Paul Kaiser Invitational this past weekend in Shippensburg. That mark earned her a fifth-place finish in the event, but more importantly, passed the school's all-time record of 18-8 3/4 which was set in 1989 by Millersville Hall of Famer Carol Forry.Doherty, who placed sixth in the long jump at the PIAA state meet a year ago, met the NCAA Championships provisional qualifying distance and smashed her previous best jump of 17-3 1/4.In addition to that, Doherty also set a personal best at the invitational in the 100. She posted a time of 12.74, which qualifies her for the PSAC Championships.
