Gloria J. Bowman is seeking a second four-year term on the Lehighton Area School District board of directors, having been elected in December 2013. Gloria has resided in Lehighton for more than 40 years.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from St. Francis University, Loretto, Pennsylvania, a master's degree in guidance and counseling from the University of Arizona, Tucson, and a superintendent's letter of eligibility from Marywood University in Scranton.Bowman has been a lifelong educator, retiring from Lehighton Area School District in 2010 with more than 38 years in education.She continues to serve as an educational consultant and volunteers time with the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees organization, where she is region 2 chair of the legislative committee, SS. Peter and Paul Church, as a lector, and secretary to the finance committee of Family Promise. Bowman's two children, Rebecca and Mark, are graduates of Lehighton Area High School.During her tenure on the school board, Bowman has served as board president for three years, initiating an annual report, in collaboration with fellow board members and administrators/staff, and the superintendent's evaluation, both of which are posted on the district website for the community. She presently serves as the liaison for Title One and PSBA and has been the chair of the policy and academic committees."I believe that Lehighton Area School District provides an excellent learning environment with many opportunities for all students. I will continue to be a strong advocate for students, support the vision of fiscal responsibility to our community, as indicated by stabilizing taxes the past three years, and work together for the betterment of our district.My efforts will continue to focus on my commitment to improve academic rigor, programs and opportunities for all students, as well as extracurricular activities in a healthy, safe and productive environment for students and staff.I will continue to dedicate the necessary time and energy that is required of a school board member, in serving all of our children, staff and the Lehighton community."
