Michael J. Sofrankois seeking his third term as mayor of Jim Thorpe.

Proudly serving as mayor over the past eight years, Sofranko has many accomplishments. He, along with the police chief and officers, haveaddressed the drug issues in Jim Thorpe by becoming involved with local, county, state and federal agencies, increasing drug arrests by over 65 percent. Sofranko also workedwith the police chief to institute naloxone use by officers.This tool will help officers save lives ofthose battling addiction.Recently he addressed the speeding issueby increasing traffic patrols and using digital speed signs.He helped update the police website, where residents can find police information and news, current arrests and allows residents to report crime and suspicious activity. Sofranko and the police chief have secured $8,000 in grants from Firehouse Subs for AED Unites, $35,000 in LSA money for a new police vehicle and $67,000 in LSA money for parking kiosks.Sofranko continues to secure over $25,000 annually through the use of the Police Service Contract, which helps defray costs to Jim Thorpe taxpayers for borough events. His pledge to the voters over the next four years is to continue the community watch, to encouragecommunity input and to continue to work with all residents and businesses to keep Jim Thorpe a safe place to raise a family, retire and visit.The lifelong resident of Jim Thorpe is the son of Florence and the late James Sofranko. He has been married for 29 years to the former Therese Krebs, RN. They are parents of son Michael, a member of the Pennsylvania State Police and his wife, Christina, and a proud new grandfather to their daughter Isabella. His daughter, Emily, is a junior at Wilkes University. Sofranko graduated from Marian High School, earned an associate degree from Lincoln Technical Institute and isemployed at Mack Truck. He is a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and served on numerous community organizations over the years. He and his family worship at St. Joseph's Church in Jim Thorpe where he is a Eucharistic Minister.
