A Luzerne County driver died and his passenger was seriously injured in a crash Wednesday involving a truck and sport utility vehicle.
State police at Hazleton identified the victim as Krispen Jacob Kriner, 36, of Butler, who was pronounced dead at the scene.Troopers said the crash occurred at 6:54 p.m. along Interstate 80 in Sugarloaf Township as Kriner was operating a 2000 Subaru Outback westbound in the left lane.The Outback went onto the left berm and impacted with a guide rail with the front end.The Outback then returned to the road where it collided head-on with a 2018 Volvo tractor with trailer operated by Marufjon Musurmonov, 24, of Philadelphia.A front-seat passenger with Kriner, Hallah J. Sbita, 33, of Montrose, Susquehanna County, was flown by medical helicopter to the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.Musurmonov was not injured.The road was shutdown for about three hours.
