Panther Valley graduate Jake Szczecina has been named the Misericordia University men's basketball scholar athlete of the year. Szczecina has garnered the honor each of the last three seasons.

The junior played in 17 games this year, averaging 2.7 points per contest for the Cougars. Szczecina scored a season-high 12 points Jan. 14 against Delaware Valley College.Misericordia defeated DeSales University to win the MAC Freedom title this season and qualify for the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Cougars finished the season 20-8.
