A Palmerton man was sentenced to a county prison term on Thursday after pleading guilty to three counts of recklessly endangering another person.

David Washburn Jr., 26, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve a total of three to 12 months in prison on each count with the terms running concurrently. Washburn admitted endangering a child and a female with a knife in an incident that occurred in 2016.Washburn appeared for sentencing on an endangering the welfare of a child charge he previously pleaded to, but Assistant District Attorney Brian Gazo told Matika that the commonwealth reached a new agreement with Washburn, at the request of the female victim. Washburn then withdrew his plea to the endangering of a child count and pleaded to the three reckless endangering charges.Washburn was arrested by state police at Lehighton on Feb. 9, 2016, when he went to the home of his girlfriendin the 200 block of Little Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township. He entered the home with a knife and chasedher around a kitchen table in the home while she was holding his 3-year-old son. Her mother was also present in the kitchen. Two other people in the home managed to restrain him until police arrived. He was originally charged with 13 criminal counts including aggravated and simple assault, terroristic threats, five counts of recklessly endangering and four counts of harassment.Matika rejected a request to impose a probation sentence. Matika said the court was invoking the deadly weapon enhancement provision of state sentencing guidelines, which calls for a minimum of three months in jail. The girlfriend spoke on behalf of Washburn and said she and Washburn resumed their relationship and that he has not caused her any problems since the incident and is working full time.Matika said, however, "There is always consequences for actions" in imposing the prison term.Washburn was also ordered to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and follow any recommendations for treatment, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee.Washburn will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. April 29 and was granted immediate work release privileges. He was given credit for two days spent in jail on the charges.
